Task 1: How to Solve Unemployment Problem strong>
Script- strong>
Alan: strong> I have a meeting with my accountant tomorrow morning. She preparing my income tax return, and I need to go over some of the receipts with her.
Pamela: strong> Income tax return! Don you think the government just squanders our hard-earned tax on some unnecessary projects?
Alan: strong> Sure, someone they do, but we are living pretty well and, to be honest, I don mind paying taxes. If I paying income tax, it means I earning would be much lower.
< br /> Pamela: strong> If the poor would just get jobs, our taxes would be much lower.
Alan: strong> Most people would rather work than receive charity, but the situation is complex: sometimes there are no jobs that they are trained for.
Pamela: strong> Then they should take the needed training-upgrade their skills and knowledge to become more employable.
Alan: strong> Training and upgrading cost money. Some government tax dollars are directed to programs that help the poor get jobs.
Pamela: strong> But even when jobs are available, some of the unemployed don want to work. They would rather have a handout.
Alan: strong> It partly a matter of education. Some people have to be educated to realize how much fuller their life would be if they were not dependent on charity.
Pamela: strong> I think the government should attack unemployment by reducing the tax rate. That would put more money into people pockets, then they would spend more, and the spending would create more jobs for the poor.
Alan : strong> Many people would agree with you.
Alan accountant is preparing his income tax return, so he needs to go over some of the receipts wit her. Pamela complains that the government just squanders people hard-earned tax money on some unnecessary projects. But Alan does not mind paying taxes, saying it means he is earning money, which is better than living on charity. Pamela insists that if the poor would just get jobs, taxes would bee much lower . Alan disagrees, saying most people would rather work than receive charity, but sometimes there are no jobs that they are trained for. But Pamela asserts that the jobless people should take the needed training to upgrade their skills and knowledge to become more employable. Alan believes that some of the government tax dollars are already directed to training and upgrading programs that help the poor to get jobs. When Pamela says some of the unemployed don want to work, preferring to have handouts, Alan points out that some people have to be educated to realize how much fuller their life would be if they ere not dependent on charity. Pamela is, however, more down-to-earth, thinking the government should attack unemployment by reducing the tax rate. That would give people more money ; then, they would spend more, which would create more jobs for the poor.

John: strong> Nora, what are you doing? What are these notes about?
Nora: strong> Well, they are for a 1,000 word essay on abuse on the elderly, due Monday.
John: strong> That a big topic. What made you decide to write about that subject?
Nora: strong> Granny going into a nursing home. And this essay is driving me crazy.
John: strong> Narrow down the topic. Pick one aspect, like nursing home. Do an outline.
Nora: strong> You mean list the ideas under headings: Introduction, Body, and the Conclusion?
John strong> : strong> Yes. In the Introduction, say people live longer now, crowing nursing homes.
Nora: strong> Then maybe in the Body I can explain how the owners try to save money on food and care.
John: strong> Right. Here I see a good quotation: “Nursing home abuse is a national epidemic.”
Nora: strong> I have statistics: 500 homes inspected; in one-third, care was substandard.
John: strong> strong> Mention government offices and lawyers who l help in cases of abuse.
Nora: strong> Then , I think I can summarize the main ideas about the helpless elderly in the Conclusion.
John: strong> Good. When you e written a first draft, read it aloud to eliminate awkward spots.
Nora: strong> I feeling a lot better about this essay and a lot less worried about Granny now.

B: strong> Yeah, that probably because people live longer now, crowding nursing homes.
A: strong> So we can hardily get attention. The owner tries to save money on food and care.
B: strong> I see , nursing home abuse is now a very common problem. I heard of one survey with statistics: 300 homes were inspects, and in nearly half of them care was substandard.
A: strong > Sometimes they even beat me. I don know where and how I can get help.
B: strong> I n theory government offices and lawyers can help you in cases of abuse.

Chris: strong> I surprised that there are so many people who lack the will-power to stop.
Nora: strong> It a disease that strikes young and old, rich and poor, and al walks of life.
Chris: strong> Drunks are often dirty old men begging for money. How did Dr. Doyle get hooked? Nora: strong> She was an intern in a big hospital: long hours, little sleep , and constant stress. Chris: strong> I suppose at first alcohol helped her to relax, but she realized. Nora: strong> First it was a drink at night, then two, then a bottle, then drinks to wake up. Chris: strong> That a sad story. Nora: strong> More inspiring than sad. She got help and stopped. Now she helps others. Isn that wonderful? Now Your Turn strong> SAMPLE DIALOG strong> A: strong> Hi, John, I so glad to see you are back! B : strong> It nice to be home again, Mom. A strong>: Oh, you smell terribly of alcohol and tobacco. You didn smoke or drink before you left home a year ago. How did you get hooked? B: strong> As an assistant engineer, I had to work might shifts often. I felt lonely and began to drink and smoke. That helped me to relax. A: strong > So gradually you drank more and more? B: strong> Yeah, first it was a drink at night, then two, then a bottle, and then I drank to wake up. You can understand gambling as an addiction unless you e been hooked.
Susan: strong> Apparently it like being addicted to drugs or alcohol. You just want more and more.
Chris: strong > It exactly like alcoholism; it takes over you life. It on your mind constantly.
Susan: strong> Yeah, like some horrible disease. But you can get help.
Chris: strong> My brother tried to stop, but he felt restless … bad tempered. His nerves were always on edge.
Susan: < / strong> Did he try Gamblers Anonymous? It a self-help group with experience just like his.
Chris: strong> Yeah, he not alone. It estimated there are 10 million addicts in America.
Susan strong> : strong> I don want to nag him, but isn it a question of taking control of his life ?
Chris: strong> I see your point, but he a compulsive gambler.
Susan strong> : < / strong> I know. But if he gets help, maybe he l get better.
Chris: strong> No doubt. It l be tough. Though but worth it.

paris … _ ice-Blood Prince
December 2, 2011
lonely long days, I listen to the whispers of clouds; the wind to the rain, under a clear sky, I pry into the secrets of the sun. Occasionally the bee flying, occasionally swallows the past, give us a lonely life in a little warm and passion.
On the 27th November, I arrived in the City of Love — Paris (for exchange, I got a French Scholarship, so I earned this amazing opportunity), only 4 students in our school got it , and I was one of them … * Proud, Proud I was welcomed by my host sister Gaine and her families. We live in a two-storey appartement in the centre of Paris. It is a modern yet antique building. It has a really Parisian feel … The next day, despite the 8 and half hour jet lack, I started school at St. Jean-de Passy, ??one of the top private schools in Paris. Man, I have to say … IT WAS FREAKIN MASSIVE!!!! We don need to wear uniform, phew … unlike Australia .. ugh … but we can wear sneakers / baskets or hoodies. Everyone was extremely independent, there is no home class , students can arrive anytime the class starts, lunch can be held in the cafeteria (like a 4-star restaurant) or outside, in the food plaza. The buildings here are extremely essy they are situated everywhere, unlike Australia, where everything is in order. Here, one can get lost easily … hmm, got to be careful. The metro (trains) are very convenient, we catch trains everyday, it takes only 10 minutes to school. Something that shocks me, is that there is no restriction to children smoking … it disgusts me actually, to see a group of 13 year-olds smoking infront of the school … I don see a child smoking, no, I can see anyone smoking … why? It not only pointless, it extremely to your health. I think smoking is just a shit (pardon my language) way for those who can express themselves properly or want to be so-called ool Smoking can affect your nervous system, making you feel elaxed or appy Seriously … go for a run, doing sport releases one adreneline (a chemical in the human brain that stimulus your nervous system, I learnt it in pyschology ) and thus makes one happy. If you think smoking is cool … man, get the F *** out … you have not lived your life … If I offended anyone in anyway, I am not apologizing, because you e not worth it … Secondly, pets can enter shops … you hear me right … PETS CAN ENTER SHOPS!!! I was jaw-dropped when I saw a little Chihuahua walking into a cloth store .. . What if it pooped … uhg … I am going to a friend catholic church party in Notre Dame, yeah, party in NOTRE DAME. WOHHH! Maths and science here, is hard … really hard … I feel so stupid when I sitting in the class, despite the language, the arabic numbers that used to be so friendly, seems to scary and intiminating * cries … It always rains in Paris, yesterday was sunny, which, according to Gaine, was extremely rare. Hehe! Everyone rides scooter here, including adults, it kind of perculiar, seeing an 6 feet tall adult crossing the road with a scooter … hm .. I currently taking fencing right now (every saturday ) and rock climbing. Fencing is scary (imagine, someone pointing a real pointy sword in your face … although you have face masks, but sill …) Anyways, that my reflection on Paris hitherto … sometimes I wonder, whilst standing in front of a petit boulangerie, such is life …

strong> strong> 13 Private Cars in China strong> private car strong> / Buy a car or not? strong> (buying a car?) strong> / On the private cars strong> < strong> (private cars) strong> In China, a lot of people own the private cars. There is no doubt that private cars make us travel faster and farther, but they have caused some problems. First, too many private cars make the road crowded and cause traffic jams. Second, they pollute the air. Third, they cause a lot of traffic accidents. How can we solve these problems? I think we should go to work by bus instead of driving private cars. Only in the this way can we protect our living environment.

Smoking in public places smoking in public places in English composition
March 5, 2011
> The following is a smoking ban on the Chinese government decided to report the main content. Content: the implementation time to quit smoking in public places: January 1, 2011 from the scope: national goals: all indoor public places smoke-free measures: no smoking signs posted data: (1) the number of smokers: about 3.5 billion (2) Distribution: male 75%; women 25% (3) by the number of passive smoking: about 540 million (4) the number of deaths due to secondhand smoke: more than 100,000 / year passive smoking: second-hand smoke [writing content] according to the above to the school English poster to write a communication, including: 1, content and implementation of the smoking decision time and scope; 2, objectives and measures; 3, the relevant data. [Writing requirements] can only use five sentences express all of the content. [Marking] the sentence structure is accurate, complete information content, discourse structure coherent. >> Not allowing smoking in public places and office building is a very good rule. I believe this for several reasons. Not only will banning smoking improve people health, it will also increase worker productivity and reduce conflicts.>> We all know smoking is not healthy. unfortunately, when smokers are able to smoke in public buildings, they can make other people sick. they may work with people who are allergic to smoking, for examples. in that case, the non-smokers have no choice unless they want to quit their jobs. they can only get sicker, which is unfair. of course, banning smoking in public buildings and offices will please non-smokers. it will also improve the smokers health. they will have fewer opportunities to smoke, so they will smoke fewer cigarettes.>> banning smoking in office buildings can also increase worker productivity. smokers won interrupt their work all the time to smoke. there will also be fewer worker absences. when smokers cut down the number of cigarettes, they will get fewer smoking related illnesses.>> finally, it is a good idea to ban smoking in public places and office buildings because a ban can reduce conflicts. non-smokers tend to get annoyed and jealous because smokers have an excuse to take frequent breaks. the most significant conflict, however, is over whether smokers have a right to smoke in public. as we have already seen, non-smokers feel they are not always given a choice. if smoking in public is allowed, they will be forced to breathe harmful air. this may violate their rights, and non-smokers are angry with smokers because of it.>> it ses clear that banning smoking n public places and office buildings is a good idea. it will reduce conflict and increase productivity. it will also benefit health of smokers and non-smokers alike. i believe that just about anything that improve our health is a good idea!>
